Sapeer Mayron

Sapeer Mayron is BusinessDesk's data journalist, responsible for data-led analysis and visualisation across markets, the economy and NZ business.
Sapeer Mayron is BusinessDesk's data journalist. She joined in January 2026 to strengthen BusinessDesk's data-driven, analytical reporting. Her work starts with original analysis of public and official data and ends with charts built to show readers something they can't get anywhere else. She produces BusinessDesk's Poll Tracker, collaborates with the editorial team on analysing earnings reports and market data in their rounds, and designed the BD.ViewFinder, a visual platform for analysing public submissions on bills and policies at a glance, and in-depth. Before BusinessDesk, Sapeer spent five years at Stuff. She was first an Auckland news reporter covering south Auckland and Pasifika communities, then a features writer and books editor for The Post and the Sunday Star-Times. She began her career at the Samoa Observer in Apia. Over three years there, she reported on everything from the 2019 measles epidemic to Samoa's historic 2021 election. Originally from Wellington, Sapeer studied journalism at Massey University and Whitireia. She is a firm believer that anyone can do maths, and that some of the best business stories are hiding in a spreadsheet.
